FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Becoming a Member

What are the age requirements for becoming a fur-member?

All Daycare and Hoteling fur-members must be at least 4 months old.

Does my dog need to be spayed or neutered?

Paws ‘n’ Rec requires all fur-members to be spayed or neutered by 7 months.

What vaccinations do you require?

Paws ‘n’ Rec requires proof of up-to-date vaccinations from a vet for all fur-members for the following vaccinations/health examinations
– Bordetella (every 6 months if administered orally, yearly if administered via injection or intranasally)

– Distemper/DHPP/DA2PP
– Rabies
– Flea Preventative
– Canine Influenza (strongly recommended but not required. There has not been a major outbreak in the Tampa Bay area for years, but if that ever occurs, we may require the vaccine for all fur babies)

If you don’t have your vaccination records on hand, we can help you obtain them from your vet.

Do you accept all breeds?

All breeds are welcome at Paws ‘n’ Rec! Every fur-member must pass an initial evaluation and is expected to abide by the same set of rules, regardless of breed.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF BECOMING A MEMBER

We require evaluations for all new fur-members and facilitate them every day of the week. This process gives you access to a complimentary day of daycare, allowing us the ability to ensure your pup is comfortable in their suite and out in the play yards with our existing members and Adventure Guides. This way, you’re not committing to a membership before you know if it’s a good fit. Proof of vaccinations and alter status is required prior to your evaluation being confirmed.

Once your pup passes their evaluation, you are all set to join as a member! For facilities that are on a waitlist, you will be placed on the waitlist and our team will give you a call as soon as we have a spot available. You’re welcome to join at an alternate location in the meantime, and we can always transfer your membership over.

Our Facility Model

How does Paws ‘n’ Rec facilitate Daycare Adventure group play?

To ensure the safety and comfort of our Daycare Adventurers, our play groups are comprised of dogs who share similar size, temperaments, and play styles. They are always supervised by Adventure Guides that have completed the Paws ‘n’ Rec training program and are experts at what they do.

Daycare Adventure Members enjoy action-packed play sessions with their fur-iends for extended periods at a time before heading to their personal suites to relax and prepare for their next adventure! We rotate groups throughout the entire day and provide an overnight potty break at all 24/7 facilities.

Why don’t you offer all day play?

At Paws ‘n’ Rec, the safety and well-being of our members is our top priority, which is why we don’t offer all day play. Doggy daycares have begun to increase in popularity as more and more people want their furry family member to enjoy socialization and stimulation. However, there’s such thing as too much stimulation. Allowing pups to play non-stop for excessive amounts of time has been found to potentially lead to issues such as over-exhaustion, over-arousal (which can lead to aggression), overheating (especially in this FL sun!), and more. When it comes to making sure our fur-members have the most fun while remaining comfortable and safe, we’ve found that the small breaks in between play cycles make a big difference. Just like you take breaks during physical activity, so should your pup!

Add-On Services

Do you offer baths or grooming?

Full-service grooming is currently available at our Pearl Ave. location. We also offer a variety of pawsome dog spa services at all locations for your furry family member to enjoy, including the following:

– Baths, Blow and Brush Outs
– Nail Trimmings
– Teeth Brushings
– Ear Cleanings
– Shed control treatments

Do you offer pick-up and drop-off services?

We do not currently offer pick-up and drop-off services.

How Our Memberships Work

Do I have to be a member to utilize Paws ‘n’ Rec services?

Paws ‘n’ Rec is a membership-based facility, so all pups and their humans must be registered as a member in order to join us for daycare or overnight boarding stays. Our membership-based model allows us to accurately control our capacity and gives us the unique opportunity to learn our pups on a more personal level, helping us to provide the best care possible.

What is the difference between Daycare Adventure
Memberships and the Hotel Membership?

Daycare Adventure Members can reserve both daycare days and overnight boarding stays, while Hoteling Members can only reserve boarding stays.

When Daycare Adventure Members visit us, whether just for the day or for an overnight boarding stay, they benefit from action-packed small group play sessions (daycare) throughout the day.

When Hoteling Members visit us for overnight boarding stays, they too benefit from small group play sessions if they have the temperament to join our Adventure members, and they stay in state of the art cabins made in the US.

HOW DOES MY MEMBERSHIP WORK?

All packages are monthly, recurring every 30 days from the day you sign up. For example, if your membership is activated on the 10th of the month, then every month going forward on the 10th your package will auto-renew. Your last day to utilize adventure passes for the month would then be the 9th, and on the 10th you will be charged for a fresh set of days.

WHAT HAPPENS TO UNUSED DAYS ONCE MY MEMBERSHIP RENEWS?

Unused days do not roll over, so you must utilize all daycare credits within your 30 day membership cycle.

CAN I ADJUST MY MEMBERSHIP PACKAGE?

You’re more than welcome to modify your package – downgrades are applicable once every 90 days, and you can upgrade at any time. For facilities that are on a waitlist for daycare, please note there may be a short wait to process the upgrade as we wait for days to become available. Current members get priority for available days. If you are looking to modify your package, you must let us know before your membership renews. Once a package renews for the month, you cannot change the tier.

HOW DO I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP?

All packages are subject to our 30 day cancellation notice policy. Once we receive your cancellation request, you will have one final renewal day in which we will process your last invoice. You can utilize services for this final month, and you won’t be charged again. There are no exceptions to the final invoice, so we kindly ask that you let us know well in advance if you need to cancel.

DO I NEED TO SCHEDULE MY DOG’S RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE?

We ask that you make reservations in advance for all adventures, both daycare and boarding, to ensure our team knows to expect you. Spots are not guaranteed for pups who arrive without a reservation – if we have hit our capacity for the day and you arrive without a reservation, we will unfortunately be unable to take your pup.

HOW DO I MAKE RESERVATIONS?

Reservations can be made through our member portal, or by contacting your facility directly via email or phone. You will receive an email confirmation for all requested reservations that will tell you if the reservation has been accepted or rejected. If for any reason the reservation is rejected, the email will state the reason why (expired vaccinations, facility is full, etc.).

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I MAKE RESERVATIONS?

We recommend you make reservations as soon as you know you will need care! We fill up for boarding and daycare on most major holidays, so we highly suggest you book these dates well in advance. Spots are first come, first serve. Please note that all reservations for major U.S. holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years) require a 50% deposit at the time of booking. Should you need to cancel your reservation, please do so at least 48 hours before your check-in date. If you cancel within 48 hours of check-in, your deposit will be forfeited (non-refundable). A $5/day surcharge is applied to the 3 days before and after the above mentioned holidays.

I TRIED TO MAKE A RESERVATION BUT THE SYSTEM GAVE ME AN ERROR – CAN I STILL COME IN?

The system will not allow you to make a reservation if we have hit our capacity. If you receive an error message, that means we have hit our cap and we do not have room for your pup.

The facility is full. Is there a waitlist I can be placed on?

We do have a waitlist for daycare and boarding spots – in order to be placed on the list, you must contact your facility directly.

I FORGOT I MADE A RESERVATION AND I DIDN’T SHOW UP! WHAT HAPPENS TO MY RESERVATION?

Since we operate on the basis of our capacity, we ask that you please cancel any unneeded reservations by 8AM on the day of check-in. If we do not receive a cancellation request by 8AM and you do not drop off for the remainder of the day, we will count this as a No Call/No Show. Every member gets one free No Call/No Show in which they will receive a courtesy call from our team. After the first time, a credit will be deducted for members who No Call/No Show on a day they have reserved.
